Parti Goldendoodles: All About This Rare Colored Dog

A Parti Goldendoodle laying in the living room

All curly-coated and floppy-eared, the Goldendoodle is the darling of the designer dog world. With the affable, love-the-world nature of the Golden Retriever and the hypoallergenic coat and intelligence of the Poodle, these hybrids are dream mixes for people with dog allergies.

While a Golden Retriever’s color can range from cream to red, a Poodle can come in many different colors. From red, apricot, and chocolate to black, blue, and white, Poodles have such a wide color range that it is impossible to predict what color a Goldendoodle will turn out depending on which parent breed it takes after.

In addition, Goldendoodles can be particolored. This blog post will look more closely at the particolored Goldendoodle, its features, cost, and how to care for one.

What Is A Parti Goldendoodle?

Particolored dogs are some of the most beautiful and unique-looking breeds around. Also known as patched or pied, a particolored (or particolored) dog is a dog whose fur is multicolored, with patches of two or more distinct colors, typically white or cream fur with patches of another color.

The distribution of color varies from dog to dog, with some exhibiting large patches and others having only small spots of color. While the term “parti” can technically refer to any animal with more than one color, it is most often used in reference to dogs.

Parti-colored dogs are not exceedingly rare. In fact, many popular breeds have particolored coats, including Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and Standard Poodles. However, their unique coloring makes particolored dogs stand out from the crowd.

Parti Goldendoodles are a color variation of Goldendoodles. These dogs can be black with white markings, cream with brown markings, or any combination of colors that give them a splash of pattern in their coats.

The color patches are most typically found on the ears, around the eyes, the back, and the tail. The equal proportionate expression of the two colors distinguishes a Parti Goldendoodle from abstract and tuxedo Goldendoodles, which are also bicolored but have more distinctive markings.

Are Parti Goldendoodles Rare?

Due to the difficulties in producing a pattern with a proportioned bi-color coat, parti Goldendoodles are relatively rare. Producing the parti variant is more complex than breeding the other solid-colored Goldendoodles.

Breeding them is a complicated process that necessitates the use of genetic testing to determine the presence of genes responsible for the parti coat when selecting eligible parent dogs. The parti coat pattern is obtained when the pup receives two copies of a parti gene, which is a recessive gene responsible for the proportionate amount of white spotting in the coat.

This means that each of a pup’s parents must provide one copy of this gene. Poodles have the parti genes, but Golden Retrievers traditionally do not, so it is near impossible to get a parti pup in the first generation (F1) mix of a purebred Golden Retriever and a purebred Poodle.

The breeder must breed the offspring of the two pure breeds back to the Poodle parent to create a generation with the prospect of generating a parti pup. This is known as “backcrossing,” resulting in an F1b hybrid generation.

Backcrossing the mix with more Poodle increases the likelihood of any F1b hybrid acquiring two copies of the parti genes. In addition, breeding two F1bs would also boost the possibility of producing a parti Goldendoodle.

The essential criterion here is to have two parents with some Poodle DNA to maximize the chances of inheriting parti genes, as only a Poodle DNA pool has parti genes.

The intricacies involved in their breeding procedure are why Parti Goldendoodles are especially challenging to find. They are typically found with breeders that specialize in producing Parti Goldendoodles.

How Much Are Parti Goldendoodles?

Parti Goldendoodles are pricey because of their scarcity. In fact, they are far more costly than other Goldendoodles.

A parti Goldendoodle from a good breeder costs between $2,000 to $5,000 on average, but it may cost up to $8,000 depending on ancestry, coat type and color, size, health condition, and the breeder’s reputation.

Even though Goldendoodles are increasingly in demand and highly valued these days, some wind up at adoption centers. You could try your luck in an adoption facility and see if they have parti Goldendoodles.

Adoption fees range between $250 and $500 to cover the rescue dog’s medical and maintenance costs, which is still significantly lower than getting a Goldendoodle from a breeder.

In addition, you’ll need some stuff before bringing your Goldendoodle home. You might want a crate, dog bowls, food, a bed, toys, treats, a collar, and a leash. The initial setup costs for bringing home a new pup range between $300 and $500.

What Is The Rarest Color Of A Goldendoodle?

The color choices are infinite for this designer breed due to the several combinations possible from the colors of their parent breeds.

Poodles come in cream, brown, cafe au lait, blue, silver, gray, and apricot, whereas Golden Retrievers come in dark golden, golden, and light golden. As a result, Goldendoodles have a diverse color pallet, including:

  • Apricot
  • Black
  • Blue
  • Chocolate
  • Cream
  • Gray
  • Red
  • Silver
  • Tan
  • White

Aside from these, these Goldendoodles are available in various bi-color patterns, including the star of this article, the Parti Goldendoodle, Phantom Goldendoodle, Abstract Goldendoodles, and Tuxedo Goldendoodles. These Goldendoodles differ from one another based on the color distribution ratio or the portions of the body with white spots.

Blue, gray, and silver are the rarest of these colors, as they are formed by the presence of two recessive color genes. This implies that the puppy must inherit the same genes for that color from both parents, one copy from each. As a result, producing puppies of these shades would need several generations of breeding.

While Parti and Phantom Goldendoodles are the rarest coat patterns, for the same reason as the rare colors, as they are expressed by recessive genes and require multi-generation breeding to get these coat patterns.

What Is The Most Popular Color Of A Goldendoodle?

Apricot, cream, and red are the most popular colors for Goldendoodles. These shades give Goldendoodles a teddy-like look, making them the most sought-after color variants.

Goldendoodle Apricot Parti

Apricot Parti Goldendoodles are predominantly white coated, with the remainder being apricot, a variant of red color that is similar to the color of peaches, found as spots in various regions of the body. However, their color may fade as they age to resemble cream or tan Parti Goldendoodles.

Chocolate Parti Goldendoodle

Chocolate Parti Goldendoodles are also known as brown Goldendoodles. Their color also fades with age in a process known as silvering, when the hue has converted into a brown cream tint similar to coffee with milk; hence they are called Cafe au-lait.

Red Parti Goldendoodles

Red Parti Goldendoodles have a striking appearance, and their red color can vary from mahogany to dark red. After apricot Parti Goldendoodles, red Parti Goldendoodles are one of the most sought-after color variants.

Black Parti Goldendoodles

Due to the contrast of the white coat’s black patches, black Parti Goldendoodles have a classy appearance.

However, people frequently mix up black Parti Goldendoodles and tuxedo Goldendoodles. This is because they both are black and white. They are, nevertheless, significantly distinct in terms of the genetic make-up of their coat color.

The Black Parti has mainly a white coat with black patches with the two colors of somewhat equal proportions. Tuxedos are predominantly black, with a few white patches on the chest and legs that provide the appearance of wearing a tuxedo.

What Are The Different Coat Types Of Parti Goldendoodles?

Parti Goldendoodles have medium to long coats with varying textures depending on which parent they take after.

Straight

This coat resembles that of a Golden Retriever. However, this form of Parti Goldendoodle is uncommon. They also shed a lot and may not be hypoallergenic like the other coat textures found in Goldendoodles.

Wavy Coat

This is the most prevalent coat texture among Goldendoodles. It is a beautiful mix between its two parent breeds, the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. They are easier to groom and shed less than their straight-coated counterparts.

Curly Coat

This coat texture is similar to their other parent breed, the Poodle. This gives them a teddy bear look, and they are adored by many people all over the world. They are the most likely to take after the Poodle’s coat and be hypoallergenic.

How Big Is A Parti Goldendoodle?

Goldendoodles come in various sizes since they are a cross of Golden Retrievers, a big dog, and Poodles, which range in size from small to medium depending on whether a Miniature or Standard Poodle was used. Their height can range from 13 inches to 26 inches.

Goldendoodles may be divided into three types based on size and growth rate:

Mini Parti Goldendoodle

Mini Parti Goldendoodles are the tiniest of the bunch, measuring 13 to 17 inches tall. They mature around 11 to 13 months and weigh between 15 and 35 pounds.

Medium Parti Goldendoodles

Medium Parti Goldendoodles mature about the same time as mini Goldendoodles, between 11 and 13 months. They are, however, 17 to 20 inches tall and weigh between 35 and 50 pounds.

Standard Parti Goldendoodles

These Goldendoodles are regular size. They can grow to be 20-26 inches tall, weigh 50-90 pounds, and reach maturity around 15-19 months.

The Parti Goldendoodle Temperament

These charming creatures are the perfect blend of their Golden Retriever parent’s friendliness and devotion and their Poodle parent’s wit and trainability.

Goldendoodles are among the most pleasant, friendly, loving, humorous, and intellectual dogs. They are obedient, easy to train and get along well with kids, making them excellent companions and family pets.

However, training is still required in the early stages to teach your Goldendoodle manners. Though they are well-behaved dogs, like most other breeds, they can become restless and destructive when left alone for extended periods.

These are canines who like attention and spending time with their human pack. They can be prone to separation anxiety and should not be left alone for long periods.

Are Parti Goldendoodles Easy To Train?

Parti Goldendoodles have inherited the intellect and smarts of both of their parent breeds. And their desire to please and satisfy their owners makes them docile and easy to train.

Because parti Goldendoodles, like their parents, are extremely lively, agility training would be ideal for them to get rid of the excess energy.

With their winning personalities and patient, loving nature, Goldendoodles make ideal therapy dogs.

How Much Exercise Does A Goldendoodle Need?

The amount of exercise required by the Goldenpoodle varies according to its size. Exercising a mini Goldendoodle too much will do more damage than good. However, regardless of size, it is typically suggested that they get at least 30 minutes of activity. Larger Goldendoodles that are bred to a Standard Poodle are likely to be more active and require at least an hour’s walk a day.

Medium and standard-sized dogs can benefit from more exercise to burn off surplus energy and maintain their mental health.

How Long Do Parti Goldendoodles Live?

Parti Goldendoodles have an average lifespan of 10 to 15 years, but if properly cared for, they can live much longer. One of the advantages of a crossbreed is that they are relatively healthier than purebred dogs. The risk of developing a disease is less likely, but that doesn’t rule it out completely.

Some health issues that they might have a chance of developing are:

Cataracts: It affects the eyes; a cloudy fog in the eye makes the dog’s vision blurry.

Hip dysplasia: This is a very common condition in larger dogs, affecting the ball joints of the hip bones, resulting in extreme pain and difficulty walking.

Patellar Luxation: This is a dislocation of the knee cap, another severe condition that impedes their walking ability.

Von Willebrand’s Disease: This is an issue in the clotting ability of their blood. The dogs who develop this disease have symptoms such as bleeding gums.

Final Thoughts

Goldendoodles are happy-go-lucky, love-the-world types of companion dogs that will make an excellent addition to any household. Regardless of color or coat pattern, a Goldendoodle in your life can only be a good thing!
